Rental CD shops, or "rentaru CD syoppu" are the places where one can rent his/her favorite CDs. It is a CD version of Blockbuster Videos. Most Japanese people feel that the prices of the 12 cm CD (about $25) and 8 cm CD (about $8) are expensive. Also, by using rental CD stores, the Japanese find a variety of CDs that they cannot afford to purchase. They make several personally-edited cassette tapes from several CDs. The rental CD stores are so popular in Japan, Japanese copyright legalized for record companies and composer to gain some money out of the rental fees.
